Volvo offers three distinct XC90 models, each with a different take on the turbocharged four-cylinder foundation of the base model. Front-wheel drive is only available with the 250-hp turbocharged engine (T5 designation), while all-wheel drive is standard on every other model.
The T6 model is the most potent; an additional supercharger is added to the turbochargers, increasing output to 316 hp. The Momentum and Inscription both come equipped with this system. The turbocharged four-cylinder engine, two electric motors and an outside charging outlet give the plug-in hybrid XC90 455 horsepower (Recharge T8 Extended Range). Furthermore, it is the fastest of the lot, reaching 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.
The XC90 can tow up to 5,000 pounds with either of its available engines and eight-speed automatic transmission, which is suitable for a vehicle of its size but not particularly impressive. Its steering is responsive during cornering, and the wheel has a nice balance of lightness and sturdiness, making it a pleasure to drive.
